Delivery and Storage Recommendations

Delivery Information:

Generally, deliveries are made mid-week, but vary based on location and the number of stops on the route. The logistics coordinator will call the delivery contact early the week of delivery with tentative delivery information. The driver will call the delivery contact at least 24 hours prior to delivery to coordinate details. Please do not make any arrangements for offloading until the logistics coordinator and/or driver calls to coordinate delivery. The shipment will arrive on a 65′ long semi-tractor flatbed trailer needing a minimum of 13′-6″ height clearance. The delivery site must be able to support an 80,000 lbs. truck and allow for equipment turnaround. Residential areas normally do not allow for this type of equipment.

The delivery contact will be required to pre-arrange appropriate equipment (e.g. boom truck,crane, forklift, etc.) and offload. The driver may assist and advise, but will not have equipment to perform any offloading services. The heaviest bundle will be no more than 3,000 lbs. (exceptions may apply for large, custom projects). Non-marring slings should be used to offload pitched beams. Forks should be used to offload bundles of T&G deck and metal roofing. For safety reasons, hand unloading is not an acceptable offloading method.

Storage Recommendations:

All products should be stored off the ground and covered for protection against the elements-keep the materials high and dry.

Generally, for all materials, and specifically for metal roofing:

  • Prolonged storage of sheets in a bundle is not recommended. If conditions do not permit immediate installation, extra care should be taken to protect sheets from red rust, white rust or water marks.
  • If moisture penetrates between panels, the panels should be removed from the bundles and allowed to dry. Failure to do so has a high risk of causing damage.
  • Store bundled/crated material high enough off the ground to allow air circulation beneath the bundle/crate and to prevent rising water from entering the bundle/crate. Also, slightly elevate one end of the bundle/crate to enable drainage.
  • Prevent rain from entering bundle/crate by covering with a tarpaulin and make provisions for air circulation between draped edges of the tarpaulin and ground. Failure to allow for air circulation could result in excessive moisture/condensation and cause panel damage.
